Welcome!

My name is Carla Mattioli, an English teacher from Bahía Blanca, a city in the south of the province of Buenos Aires. Learning and teaching a language is my passion and a source of intense curiousity for me. Since 2016, I have been teaching adults and, on occasions, children and adolescents. However, I prefer working with adults.

As far as my professional development is concerned, I would very much like to further my knowledge in the areas of linguistics and language learning and teaching. That is the reason why I have chosen to pursue this career, in other words, because I have many questions as regards the nature of both first and foreign language acquisition. In addition to this, in the process of answering those questions, I hope to improve my teaching practice and my students' learning experiences. Also, I would love to develop as a researcher and carry out my own studies in the field of language learning (and why not linguistics!).

This blog is named "Words Taste Like Freedom" because it is through discursive practices that we reach for power, fulfill our goals and have our voices heard. As the British actor Stephen Fry once said, "words are your birthright".

I must say I am very enthusiastic about this course, which I trust it will provide me with the skills to foster my writing and academic skills to become an efficient member of this discourse community which together we are building.

I wish you all the best.

Carla.

  3. Hi Carla!
    Nice thoughts!
I think we tend to consider language as a natural skill rather than a complex system of cognitive and social factors.
I hope you learn about the areas you want to delve.
    Best Regards!

    1. Hi, Poli!! I conceive language as a system and also as a phenomenon with multidimensional aspects. I find it very enigmatic in nature.

Wish you the best this term! A big hug,

      Carla.

As you said, you´re interested in first and foreign language acquisition and linguistics. I think Neurolinguistic of second language acquisition would be a perfect subject for you!!! Maybe a Master degree in Neurolinguistics. It´s a very interesting career.
